THE ROCK Glass & Mirror Company
is an independent glass shop in Flagstaff, Arizona. Owner and certified glazier, Damon Cundiff began his career in the glass business over twenty-four years ago. His humble beginning in the glass business started with washing glass trucks, repairing screens, and delivering windows. The next nine years were dedicated to training to become a residential and commercial certified glazier. Eventually, Damon began working for the largest window manufacturer on the west coast, where he trained others to become certified glaziers.
It is important
to hire a certified glazier for your glass work to ensure a quality job. A glazier is a construction professional who selects, cuts, installs, replaces, and removes residential, commercial, and decorative glass. Glaziers also install storefront frames, entrances, handrails, shower enclosures, curtain wall framing, and glass and mirror walls. It takes about four years for a glazing apprentice to complete on-the-job training and schooling to advance to a journeyman. It then takes about two more years for a journeyman to become qualified to apply for glazier certification.
In 1998
, Damon started
THE ROCK Glass & Mirror Company
. The name stems from his value in integrity, and his intention to run a company with that same notion. You may have heard the phrases, “solid as a rock”, or “he was her rock during a crisis”. The figurative definition of ROCK is solid, sound, reliable, a good person, someone who is good to others, able to count on, dependable, of integrity.
During Damon’s years
of installing glass on construction sites, he recalls hearing common industry sayings exemplifying inferior work, such as “caulk and paint for what we aint” or “looks good from my house!”. As he heard these sayings uttered, he always thought to himself, “Would it be ok if your customer heard you say that?” Obviously, NO! Ultimately, this prompted Damon to operate
THE ROCK Glass & Mirror Company
with a much different motto:
“Good enough, isn’t even close.”
